Andrés Iniesta has reportedly given an interview to MARCA about his current spell as a coach, and the line that travels is a simple one: standing on the touchline is said to generate more tension in him than playing did.

Coming from him, that is worth sitting with. This is a player whose entire public image was built on the absence of visible panic, on the idea that the noise happened to other people. The suggestion now is that the job on the other side of the whitewash does something to him that ninety minutes in possession never managed.

The interview is reported to have ranged wider than that. He is understood to have spoken about his plans in the dugout, about matters concerning the Selección, and about a project called Iniesta Experience: El Juego interior.

What the reporting does not contain is the detail that would turn any of it into news. There is no club named, no team he is said to be coaching right now. No date, no offer, no concrete step on the coaching path. Nothing on the Selección beyond the fact that the subject came up. One headline, a handful of topics, and a conspicuous shortage of specifics behind them.

So treat it as what it is. A former great says the job is harder on the nerves than the playing was, and the rest is still unwritten.
